Showcasing para swimmers of various disabilities from all over the world, the Kuching 2019 World Para Swimming Championships (WPSC) will be held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from 29 July to 4 August 2019. This championship will also be the Qualifying Championship for Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Games. A first time an Asian City is given the honour to host this prestigious event – 9th Championship held every 2 years once. The last championship was held in Mexico City 2017. WPSC 2019 is organized by Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) and Sarawak State Government. A joint committee called Kuching Para Swimming Organizing Committee 2019 (KUPSOC2019) has been formed between both parties to ensure the championships are delivered to beyond the expectation of all stakeholders. The event crystallizes the inspiring efforts, determination, courage and resilience of a special breed of over 700 athletes from 80 countries who will compete for about 150 Gold Medals in events for swimmers with disability in the following categories: a. Physically Disabled – Amputees & Les Autres. b. Visually Impairment – Blindness. c. Cerebral Palsy – Spastic. d. Intellectually Disabled. The championship will be held at Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre – named after our Malaysian Diving Queen. This state-of-the-art swimming and diving facility meet the international standards for both swimming and diving competitions. Kuching is well known for playing host to numerous international events showcasing the Malaysian hospitality and this championship will be another feather in the cap and will provide a boost to Visit Sarawak 2019 campaign.
